Objectives Students acquire in-depth knowledge about different sociological approaches of social analysis. They learn to conduct empirical research, which is related to social, political and cultural developments and transformations as well as related inequalities. Students will write a seminar paper or a scientific report. Through an intensive engagement with a specific topic the students will learn to grasp a sociological problem; develop scientific research questions; implement and answer them through an empirical research project.
Subject Depending on the concrete topic of the Research Project the students will learn to apply quantitative or qualitative research strategies or a multi-methods approach. The course contains the following contents: formulation of a precise research question, working out of a theoretical concept; development of a research design and research instruments; data collection, data analysis and interpretation; reporting and presentation. Basic knowledge about empirical social research in theory and practice is required. Through additional methodological and theoretical in-puts a successful accomplishment of the chosen research task will be secured.
Criteria for evaluation single and group work during the research process
Methods The Sociological Research Project will apply and teach theoretical, methodological as well as topical knowledge. The research process will be developed through and accompanied by presentations, group work, discussions.
