Objectives |
The course combines conceptual and methodological research tasks in an application-oriented research project. Students learn to do scientific work in a practically relevant environment. Through focussing on a specific topic students develop the ability, how to identify a sociological problem respectively research questions in the field of work, technology and society in its complexity, and to implement and answer them in an empirical research project.

Subject |
The topics of the course are related either to a specific or encompassing problem of the Sociological Research Project: work, economic systems and life worlds. Depending on the chosen topic qualitative or quantitative research strategies or a multi-methods approach will be applied. The course contains the following contents: formulation of a precise research question, working out of a theoretical concept; development of a research design and research instruments; data collection, data analysis and interpretation; reporting and presentation. Basic knowledge about empirical social research in theory and practice is required. Through additional methodological and theoretical in-puts a successful accomplishment of the chosen research task will be secured.

Criteria for evaluation |
Single and group work in a joint research process; presentations, participation in discussions and project development.

Methods |
The Sociological Research Project will apply and teach theoretical, methodological as well as topical knowledge. The research process will be developed through and accompanied by presentations, group work, discussions.
