Objectives To learn basics of biostatistics and its role in the research process and study design
Subject The course provides an introduction to biostatistics including following topics:

  • design a study including sample size determination
  • descriptive and exploratory methods for qualitative and quantitative data
  • probability and probability distributions
  • methods of statistical inference (estimation, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing)
  • various test procedures for two or more groups
  • generalized linear models (ANOVA, regression and correlation)
Criteria for evaluation Attendance of 80% is mandatory. It is not possible to achieve a positive grade if requirements concerning attendance cannot be fulfilled. Assessment is continuous. The positive result shall be described as "successful participation", the negative result shall be described as "unsuccessful participation".
