Objectives The students become acquainted with the meaning and relevance of gender and diversity and understand how they relate to science and engineering.
Subject This class discusses inequalities caused by gender (sexual orientation or ethnicity) as well as its consequences. Relevant topics are discrimination and its cultural effects, work cultures, inclusive product design, science as a social practice.
Criteria for evaluation Attendance of 80 per cent is mandatory. It is not possible to achieve a positive grade if requirements concerning attendance cannot be fulfilled. All the selected literature has to be read, students have to present one selected paper, write a summary and prepare questions for another group.
