Detailed information
Original study plan Master's programme Physics 2023W
Objectives You will learn the principle and practical techniques to analyze the physical and chemical properties of surfaces and thin films with spatial resolution down to atomic scale.
Subject The lecture introduces the effects and the mechanisms of:
1) electron-surface interactions
2) photon-surface interactions
3) atom/molecule-surface interactions
4) ion-surface interactions
in conjunction with their application in analysis of surface and thin films.
Criteria for evaluation Presentation on the selected topics related to lecture or oral exam (dates by arrangement).
Methods Lecture and case study
Study material John C. Vickerman, Surface Analysis – The Principle Techniques, HOHN WILLEY & SONS 1997.
