Detailed information
Pre-requisites PR Lab Course in Analytical Chemistry VL Instrumental Analytical Chemistry
Original study plan Bachelor's programme Biological Chemistry 2023W
Objectives Practical experience in using modern instruments for analytical chemistry with a focus on chromatographic and electrophoretic techniques
Subject
  1. Determination of residues of pesticides in honey by gas chromatography / mass spectrometry (GC-MS). This analysis deals with organic trace analysis and includes sample preparation and analyte enrichment by liquid-liquid extraction. Gas chromatographic separation is hyphenated with mass spectrometric detection in the selected ion monitoring mode.
  2. Ion chromatographic determination of anions in drinking water. This analysis demonstrates the routine quantitation of inorganic anions like chloride, nitrate and sulfate by anion-exchange chromatography and suppressed conductivity detection.
  3. Quantitation of ingredients of commercially available pharmaceutical formulations by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) and UV detection. This analysis demonstrates quality control of pharmaceutical products.
  4. Determination of artificial sweeteners by capillary electrophoresis (CE). This analysis shows existing alternatives to widely used chromatographic techniques.
