Objectives Students are able to accomplish practice-oriented tasks in the Data and Knowledge Engineering spectrum. They have the ability to apply selected tools, like for example object-oriented or objet-relational database systems. They are able to accomplish tasks by themselves and on their own responsibility in a theorie-driven and concept-driven manner. They are further able and willing to acquire additional competences, to work in teams, to moderate and direct group processes and to review, reflect on and impart professional knowledge about learning needs.
Subject Subjects vary corresponding to the particular task. The application and usage of tools adequate for accomplishing the task are definite course subjects. An example is to develop a document management system using an XML-enabled object-relational database system or a native XML database system. In the course of task accomplishment it is imparted how to apply management techniques, negotiation techniques, conflict resolution techniques, team organization, communication and moderation techniques as well as techniques for self-organized knowledge acquisition in practice.
Further information Both, assignments of tasks as well as approaches to solving a problem are given. Students work in teams of 3 to 5 persons. Each team designs and implements their own solutions under guidance of the lecturer. Students present their intermediate results after completion of each project phase and discuss them in plenum.
