Objectives Students acquire in-depth knowledge about theoretical approaches and central empirical insights to analyse and evaluate historical and contemporary transformations of (different forms of) work and society. The emphasis of the Sociological focus will be put on transformations of work in the context of changes of economic systems and life worlds. Students will be able to work with knowledge from different fields of sociology to analyse a specific problem of these fields and to write a seminar paper.
Subject In-depth knowledge about sociological theories and empirical insights about transformations of work and society (focus: transformations of economic systems and life worlds) in different social spheres such as employment, organisations, family, health systems, care, migration, social policy, development, etc. Concrete contents will vary.
Criteria for evaluation Seminar paper, presentation, participation in discussions
Methods This Sociological Focus Seminar will convey theoretical knowledge and empirical insights and apply them to certain problems of the outlined fields. Methods of learning will be presentations, group work, discussions….
