Objectives Its the objective of the seminar to focus on a deepening engagement with an empirical or theoretical question. The focus will be put on selected wproblems of social change conflicts, and burning social topics.
Subject The seminar will either be theoretically or empirically oriented or it will combine both. The following alternatives are possible: acquisition, discussion, comparison of theoretical approaches: reconstructions and discussion of social developments and dynamics and the conflicts connected to them; examination and engagement with theoretical and empirical states of the art (in an international comparative perspective) concerning the areas of research of the Institute of Sociology in Linz, in particular, work, education, care, development, family, health, migration, organisation, social movements, environment, economy.
Criteria for evaluation Depending on the didactic concept the following criteria will be applied • Regular attendance • Active participation in the seminar and reading of the papers • Presentations concerning a selected topic (20min), with PPT and handout • Preparation of an outline for a scientific essay, about which there will be feedback • Seminar paper (20 pages)
Methods Depending on the didactic concept the following methods will be applied • Presentations and joint discussions of selected topics • Joint readings and discussions of selected papers • groupdiscussions
