Ziele |
Students will develop their ability to use English in interactive communication situations they may encounter in their future professional careers.
Students will read autonomously and develop a basic understanding of texts with a sociological focus as well as carry on discussions. Students will develop their ability to express ideas and views on topics related to their field of studies in English. Students acquire skills in initiating communication and responding appropriately. Students will be enabled to adequately improve and master language functions, vocabulary (general and specific) for fluent and spontaneous communication. Students will develop their skills so they are in the position to discuss ideas and views in both spoken and written English. Students will improve language functions, vocabulary (general and specific) for fluent and spontaneous communication. Students will gain practical skills in writing. Students will be encouraged to do research and use the APA citing and referencing standards. Students will develop presentation skills. Students will develop reading skills to understand factual texts and specialized articles related to their field of studies. The course also aims to improve study skills for social sciences.

English for Social Scientists includes reading, discussion and writing about: Contemporary Society, Sociological Thinking, Central Debates in Welfare, Social Welfare and Social Change.
