Detailed information
Original study plan Doctoral programme Doctoral Program in Medical Sciences 2023W
Objectives Students will learn the epigenetic regulatory mechanisms in X chromosome inactivation and formation of a Barr body. Students will perform immunofluorescence (IF) and RNA fluorescence in situ hybridization (RNA-FISH) stainings to detect histone modifications and long-noncoding RNA (lncRNA) XIST in human diploid fibroblast cells (cell culture practice is optional). Students will prepare slides and observe the staining results using fluorescent microscope.
Subject Knowledge on Barr body epigenetic regulation; long non-coding RNA XIST; IF staining; RNA-FISH staining; fluorescence microscope imaging
Criteria for evaluation A minimum 75% attendance is required. Students need to write a scientific report describing brief experiment procedures and results (1-2 pages). The positive assessment is "participated successfully", the negative assessment is "participated without success".
