Objectives This course is designed in a way that the students, after successfully engaging with the topics, will

  • be familiar with the fluid mechanics aspects of the human body organs and diseases
  • comprehend the physics of fluid flows and the governing equations
  • learn the numerical techniques to solve the governing equations
  • gain knowledge about modeling approaches for human circulatory and respiratory systems
  • be able to run basic practical simulations e.g. blood flow in human arteries and particle deposition in human lung
Subject
  • Introduction to biological fluid flow
  • Governing equations of fluid flow and their mathematical properties
  • Finite Volume Discretization and its application to the Navier-Stokes equations
  • Modelling blood flow with single-phase and multiphase flow approaches
  • Modelling particle flow through the respiratory system
