Objectives Students know and understand the fundaments of digital communication systems. In particular, linear and nonlinear modulation schemes, optimal and suboptimal (i.e., equalizers) receivers as well as error performance and spectral properties can be described qualitatively and mathematically. Moreover, the students know and understand up-to-date OFDM-based and molecule-based communication systems. They can generalize the acquired knowledge and apply it to the design and analysis of various digital communication systems.

The level of mathematical modeling and analysis of the above topics is similar to that in the textbook Fundamentals of Digital Communication, U. Madhow, Cambridge University Press, 2008.
