Objectives |
This course introduces the basic concepts of damage and failure of damage tolerant lightweight structures under service (operational) loads.
|
Subject |
Material behavior under (1) quasi-static monotonic and (2) quasi-static cyclic (fatigue) loading; for cyclic loading, analysis methods for (a) fatigue damage initiation and (b) fatigue damage growth; particular damage modes and mechanisms for (A) homogeneous isotropic (e.g. metals) and (B) heterogeneous orthotropic (e.g. fiber reinforced laminated composites) materials; for the case of composite materials (i) intra-laminar and (ii) inter-laminar (delamination) damage; (j) analytical methods and (jj) particular aspects of the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) numerical implementation.
