Detailed information
Original study plan Bachelor's programme Mechanical Engineering 2022W
Objectives After successfully engaging with the topics of this course, students will be able to

  • explain the fundamentals of the operation of turbo-machines,
  • design impellers of radial and axial fans,
  • design basic guiding devices,
  • analytically estimate pressure losses of pipe systems,
  • explain the fundamentals of heat exchangers,
  • calculate and design basic heat exchangers.

The level of mathematical modeling and analysis of the mentioned topics is comparable to the level of the textbooks: Carolus, Ventilatoren, Teubner 2003 and Böswirth, Technische Strömungslehre, Vieweg 2007

Subject
  • Fundamentals of fluid machinery (basic quantities, dimensionless performance quantities, Euler's turbomachinery equation)
  • Analysis and calculation of axial and radial fans and turbines
  • Total pressure losses and heat transfer in pipe systems
  • Fundamentals of Heat Exchangers
  • Design of concurrent, countercurrent and cross-current heat exchangers
Criteria for evaluation homework examples and written and/or oral examination
Methods Lecture, lecture notes, individual homework examples
