Detailed information
Original study plan Bachelor's programme Computer Science 2022W
Objectives Students can apply basic methods of descriptive and inductive statistics on their own. They can analyze data using these methods and can interpret statistical methods and results in other work.
Subject descriptive statistics:

  • graphical methods for presenting data
  • tables as tool to present data
  • summary statistics for location and variation
  • summary statistics for bivariate data
  • simple linear regression

introduction to probability theory:

  • combinatorics
  • probability according to Laplace
  • conditional probability and Bayes' theorem
  • random variables
  • important distributions in statistics (binomial distribution, hypergeometric distribution, Poisson distribution, normal distribution, chi-square distribution, t-distribution, F-distribution)

inductive statistics:

  • point estimation of parameters
  • confidence intervals for means and proportions
  • introduction to statistical test theory (t-test family, chi-square test, Fisher's exact test)
Criteria for evaluation exam at the end of semester
