Objectives Students are familiar with the strategic, administrative and operational tasks and methods relevant for information management. They are therefore capable to take responsibility for IT management tasks at mid-management level. They know management tools used for planning, monitoring, and controlling effectiveness and efficiency of IT. In addition, students are capable of project management skills to identify, manage and control projects with high strategic importance for digitalization. Students have the personal and social skills regarding digitalization that can be expected from managers on medium management level.
Subject The module focuses on two topics: i) information management as strategic leadership concept and ii) project control i) Strategic importance and role of IS/IT: Leadership in digitisation and digital transformation; Information management: overview, basics, goals and tasks of information management; IT Governance and COBIT; IT Service Management and ITIL; Selected strategic tasks and methods of information management ii) Project control: project organization, procedures in IT projects, planning of IT projects, agile project management, project planning techniques, cost estimation of IT projects, economic efficiency of IT projects, project portfolio management, strategic impact of project management and project control.
Further information The content is conveyed in the form of an interactive lecture based on discussions and case studies with guest lectures, which is accompanied and supplemented by a classroom exercise. The theoretical lecture contents and recordings are available online. Lectures and exercises are coordinated with each other and should therefore be attended in the same semester. Based on the lecture material, exercises are to be solved and presented in group works within the classroom exercise course. Both parts of the module need to be completed in the same semester.
