Ziele The course has been designed to provide students with an understanding of secondary data analysis. Students will also learn how to evaluate data and documentation in order to locate data applicable to their own research as well as how to access the data. Finally, the course will address the pros and cons of secondary analysis and through exercises, the characteristics of cross-sectional and comparative analysis will come to light.
Lehrinhalte An introduction of how to search for, locate, and access data, secondary analysis of data, data archiving, practices in data sharing and practical exercise in the use of comparative data. This course deals primarily with international surveys. The course addresses research design issues (survey question development and translation), research ethics, sampling and collecting, various kinds of harmonization, and the use of international survey (micro) and aggregate (macro) data sources.
Beurteilungskriterien Students will be graded on active class participation during the IP course and on the successful completion of individual assignments (4 ECTS credits).
Lehrmethoden Modes of study: Students will be mentored and taught how to find and examine social science data and documentation. The course's main focus is the secondary analysis of data, i.e. using data from previously completed surveys or other data, such as European Social Survey (ESS), European Work and Living Conditions data (EWC), and the Labor Force Survey micro data (LFS).

Teaching methods: The course will be organised during one of the IP courses and includes introductory lectures and separate seminars where participants can practice applying real survey data and the SPSS program. After the IP, students will be required to complete individual assignments via the Moodle platform.
