Objectives (*)The aim of the course is to deepen students’ theoretical knowledge on life quality and to enhance students’ practical skills in advanced research of life quality, living standards and living conditions. On completion of the course, students will obtain knowledge and skills that enable them: • to understand and describe the alternative concepts of the life quality; • to describe the life quality in different theoretical paradigms; • to designate and analyze the key dimensions of life quality; to analyze and critically assess the specific living standards, living conditions, lifestyles from both the public and individual point of view and in comparative perspective.
Subject (*)The course introduces students to the theoretical concept of life quality, its interpretation in different contexts, analyze the distribution of the life quality in society and the individual's quality of life issues that reveals normative, aesthetic and empirical aspects. Much attention is paid to the quality of life studies, they approaches, methods and comparative dimension. The key issues of the course are such: Concept of the life quality; Life quality in theoretical paradigms; Life quality and society; Individual quality of life; Life quality studies.
Criteria for evaluation (*)Students are allocated 4 ECTS credit points for the work done, which includes active participation in on-line discussions, independent (individual) work - reading and study of the course materials and writing of final paper (20.000 characters of actual text) in one of the areas covered in the course. Cumulative grade: 70% final paper and 30% participation in the discussions.
Methods (*)Introductory lectures during Intensive Program, afterwards discussion boards and tutoring supported by Moodle and individual studies of the theoretical literature and other sources of course.
