Detailed information
Pre-requisites For safety reasons at least 25 ECTS verifiably from chemical practicals (laboratory courses with experimental activity of the student) or admission to the master curriculum Biological Chemistry ( positive completion of the "Organic chemistry laboratory bridge course" if this has been stipulated) or admission to the master curriculum "Chemistry and Chemical Technolgy" or "Management in Chemical Technologies".
Original study plan Master's programme Chemistry and Chemical Technology (CCT) 2019W
Objectives General introduction to practical photochemistry in the lab including safety considerations, preparative and mechanistic photochemistry, photophysical measurements and photocatalysis.
Subject Practical examples may vary and include:
Creation and detection of excited state species. Photoinduced electron transfer studies. Characterization of bimolecular quenching processes. Photokinetic measurements. Examples of photosensitization and photocatalysis. Characterization of photochemical reactions and permanent product formation under steady state irradiation conditions. Studying photoswitchable and photochromic systems. Determination of quantum yields.
Criteria for evaluation Student’s practical work, protocols and presentation.
Methods Introduction by experienced supervisors, handouts, hands-on experience in lab.
