Objectives Knowledge-based systems have applications in contexts where an analytic mathematical model in form of (differential) equations are not available or too complicated. It is therefore attempted to exploit available knowledge in form of expert knowledge and/or data for generating a mathematical model. Manyvalued logics, genetic algorithms, neuronal networks, decision theories, and machine learning play an important role in this context.
