Subject
What is the role that scientists in society? Should the public trust science? What is scientific responsibility? What is the relation between science and (social and political) values? In this course, we will problematize these questions. In particular, we will survey the literature on Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR), with examples especially from the biomedical sciences. Next, we will analyze more in detail the relation between science, values, and society by discussing Matthew Brown’s book Science and Moral Imagination.
