Pre-requisites Proficiency in French at school-leaving level (i.e. equivalent to B1 on CEFR for languages).

Objectives The students have knowledge of language learning strategies and communication strategies appropriate to B1+ level. They are able to produce and understand French at a B1+ level according to the CEFR. They can understand the main points of clear standard French input in familiar business contexts. They can understand factual business and economic information presented in French. They can produce connected texts in appropriate business genres (emails, memos, etc.) They can produce brief reports in standard conventionalized format, passing on factual information and reasons for actions. They can describe experiences and events and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. The students are familiarized with challenges in intercultural communication.
Subject The following topics will form the basis of classroom activities:

  • Aspects of grammar and vocabulary development necessary for linguistic and communicative competences at B1 level
  • Various themes in contemporary business and society in French-speaking countries
  • Communicative activities to foster development of student abilities in the four skill areas (speaking, listening, reading and writing)
Criteria for evaluation Continuous assessment in the form of production and comprehension tasks during the Semester; Presentation Tasks; Final written exam
Methods Communicative language practice and self-study methods to develop linguistic and communicative competences at the B1+ level on the CEFR. Grammar and vocabulary development activities. Role-plays, presentations and interaction.
