Objectives To convey basic chemical and material science concepts with relevance for medicine and technology.
Subject General and Inorganic Chemistry
Basic principles of chemistry; stoichiometry and chemical calculations; important models and concepts in chemistry; periodic table of the elements; nature of the chemical bond; structure and properties of molecules and compounds; chemical reactions and equilibria;

Analytical Chemistry
Fundamentals of analytical chemistry; qualitative inorganic analysis; basic concepts of modern analytical techniques.

Organic Chemistry
Fundamentals of organic chemistry; principles of organic-chemical structures; functional groups; elementary reaction types an their mechanisms.

Physical Chemistry
Fundamentals of electrochemistry, properties of (diluted) electrolyte solutions, Debye-Hückel theory, electromotive force of electrochemical cells, electrode double layer, reference electrodes.

Material science
Technical and medical relevant metals, ceramics and polymers and their characterisations will be explained.

Further information KV Physical principles of materials or VL Materials science has to be passed for completing this subject.
