Objectives The objectives of this lecture on Laser analytics are: (1) Introduction into analytics, i.e. the measurement of the chemcial composition of materials, for instance the concentration of different chemical elements and molecules; (2) Introduction to various laser-based or optical measurement methods used in materials analytics; (3) Examples of applications of laser analytics.
Subject The contents ot this lecture includes:

  1. Fundamentals of lasers
  2. Definition of relevant quantities in Analytics
  3. Calibration, limits of detection
  4. Introduction to optical spectroscopy
  5. Absorption spectroscopy
  6. Laser-induced plasma spectroscopy (LIBS)
  7. Other laser-ablation based analytical methods
  8. Fluorescence spectroscopy
  9. Frequency comb spectroscopy
  10. introduction to non-linear optical spectroscopy
  11. Application of lasers in material analytics (examples of recent measurements)
