Objectives Training of the concepts and solution methods in the mathematical treatment of symmetries in physics and their application to the calculation of quantum mechanical systems, their dynamics and the analysis of excitation spectra.
Subject Basic aspects of group and representation theory and the fundamental theorems; application in modern quantum mechanics as well as in the physics of molecules and solids.
Criteria for evaluation Short written tests. Number and quality of presentations of exercise solutions.
Methods Solving assignments (alone or in small groups) and presenting the results in class.
