Detailed information
Original study plan Bachelor's programme Mechanical Engineering 2020W
Objectives Understanding the role of models along the whole product lifecycle (PLC). Among others, this includes product models as mappings of products in all phases of the PLC, procedure models as mappings of engineering and business processes, process models as mappings of processes within production, logistics, commissioning, maintenance, services up to product re-use or recycling. Knowledge of most important CAx-models and CAx-tools for product development. Familiarity with common modelling and simulation approaches, with approaches for model development including model planning. Ability to apply different approaches of model development and to use simulation techniques for system analysis. Competencies in model verification and validation.
Subject
  • Survey of issues and tasks related to product development, recognition of customer needs and wishes as well as consequently evolving chances and possible Unique Selling Propositions (USPs) for new products.
  • Product innovations and strategic product planning.
  • System theoretical methods and approaches for product development.
  • Structure and typical phases of product development processes.
  • Development of product concepts.
  • Synthesis, analysis, evaluation and selection of solution concepts.
  • Fundamentals of model development: role and significance of systems, properties, parameters, and models for product development, model requirements.
  • Model development, model planning, model categories, approaches for model development.
  • System analysis through simulation, model verification and validation.
  • Important CAx-models and CAx-tools for product development.
  • Model and parameter management for integrated models, parameters and data.
