Detailed information
Original study plan Bachelor's programme Fundamentals of Natural Sciences for Technology 2020W
Objectives Getting acquainted with the most important topics in chemistry. Introduction to the scientific approach and methods of solving problems in chemistry. Getting familiar with basic chemical experimental techniques and with the documentation of experimental results by carrying out selected experiments. Get in touch with the most important terms, concepts and methods in chemistry. Application of these concepts and methods to specific chemical problems, reactions and techniques. The Bachelor's thesis includes practical work in the frame of a research project and writing as well as a presentation of the results in due consideration of the standards of good scientific practice.
Subject Inorganic Chemistry
The different groups of the periodic table are systematically covered with a special focus on the s- and p-block elements and their most relevant compounds. Among the topics treated are the abundancy of the elements and their availability, technical production and use of selected elements, important classes of compounds including synthesis, structures and properties, selected reactions and applications.
