Objectives The aim of the intensifying course (IK) Intermediate Econometrics is to provide a deeper understanding of the concepts covered in the course (KS) Intermediate Econometrics. In the intensifying course, students apply econometric methods to real data in order to develop practical skills that are necessary to perform independent empirical research.
Subject Students will gain a deeper insight into multiple linear regression models and will learn how to apply these models to economic data.

  • Multiple Linear Regression
  • Model specification
  • Binary variables
  • Sources and consequences of endogeneity
  • Basic regression analysis with time series data
  • Basic regression analysis with panel data
Criteria for evaluation Grading is based on problem sets (30 points), and a presentation of a scientific paper (30 points).
Methods Before class, students have to solve problem sets consisting mainly of computer exercises. In class, each exercise is presented by a randomly chosen student using the statistical software package STATA. In the second part of the intensifying course, groups of students have to present and discuss scientific papers. The presentation may include a small replication exercise.
