Objectives The courses in this section qualify students to critically appraise the theoretical and empirical arguments of comparative welfare state scholarship and enhance their practical skills in working independently with empirical materials and theoretical conceptualisations. They give a first overview over important debates in the field and introduce the relevant theoretical conceptualisations and empirical approaches of internationally comparative social research and in doing so lay the theoretical and conceptual groundwork for comparative welfare state research.
