Ziele (*)This course provides the practical application and training for the students concerning the material, formulae and techniques presented in the lecture course Mathematics I. The students are given well-explained sample exercises and a range of exercises to go through to develop their mathematical skills.
Lehrinhalte (*)The following mathematical topics are covered, these are the same topics as those of the corresponding lecture course:

Vectors: Basic definition of two, three and N-dimensional vectors, components of and algebraic calculations with vectors, coordinate systems, bases and linear independence of vectors, sscalar product and cross product of vectors, projection and orthogonality of vectors.

Functions: Definition, representations and examples of functions; symmetry, invertability and composition of functions; fundamental functions (polynomials, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric functions etc) and their qualitative properties; sequences and series and limits of sequences and series; limits and continuity of functions; differentiation, extreme values of functions, convexity/concavity of functions, full analysis of qualitative properties of functions.
Beurteilungskriterien (*)The criteria for successful completion of the tutorial course involve

  1. regular attendance
  2. active participation (at least two in-class presentations during the semester)
  3. correct weekly homework assignments.
