Original study plan Master's programme Business Informatics 2019W
Objectives Students have an in-depth knowledge of selected advanced topics in production, logistics and supply chain management. They are able to describe planning problems using appropriate mathematical models. They are able to select and apply appropriate solution methods. Topic "Transportation Logistics": Students have in-depth knowledge in long-term tactical as well as short-term operational distribution planning, such as parcel delivery, service technician routing and scheduling, patient transport etc. Topic "Layout & Design": Students have in-depth knowledge of strategic location planning problems as well as tactical planning tasks for internal layout design. Topic "Production Planning and Inventory Management under Uncertainty": Students dispose of profound knowledge in lot sizing under uncertainty, e.g., with respect to the actual demand. Topic "Multi-Objective Optimization": Students dispose of in-depth knowledge in modeling and solving strategic and operational decision problems with multiple objectives, e.g., facility location planning considering cost and CO2 emissions or distribution planning in a disaster relief context. Topic "Introduction to Intelligent Solutions for Transportation and Physical Internet": Students are able to specify intelligent technologies and applications for a vehicular environment and their fundamental design principles. They are able to assess traffic data collection methods on the basis of appropriate technology and specific use case, to analyze mobility problems and to design technical / social / behavioral solutions.
Subject Topic "Transportation Logistics":
Traveling Salesman Problems, Vehicle Routing Problems, Arc Routing Problems, Heuristics, Metaheuristics

Topic "Layout & Design":
configuration of job-shop and flow-shop systems, flexible flow lines, flexible manufacturing systems, warehouse design

Topic "Production Planning and Inventory Management under Uncertainty":
economic lotsizing and scheduling problems, stochastic inventory models, queueing theory

Topic "Multi-Objective Optimization":
Pareto efficiency, exact and heuristic solution methods for multi-objective problems, applications in production, logistics and supply chain management.“

Topic "Introduction to Intelligent Solutions for Transportation and Physical Internet"
Insights into the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and the Physical Internet as the application of information technology, sensors and communication technology in transport applications; overview of the technologies existent to make better use of the existing infrastructure, make transportation systems safer, efficient, reliable and environmentally friendly.
