Objectives Learn the systematic development of mechatronic systems starting from identification of customer needs up to the conceptual design of technical solutions employing established methods of product definition and solution finding for exemplary problems.
Subject Introduction to the problem of product development; lecture. Products and markets; lecture. Conceptual design; lecture. 1. seminar paper problem: a specific product definition 2. seminar paper problem: conceptual design of a product.

Lectures by both instructors on the subjects: products and markets and conceptual design of mechatronic systems (lecture notes); Exercising of these teaching contents by two seminar paper problems; solutions are worked out in small students groups, have to be presented, and are intensively discussed.

Criteria for evaluation Seminar papers: Content, presentation and reports; participation in the discussions.
