Objectives Knowledge of Civil Procedure in a Common Law legal system at the example of the US federal court proceeding.
Subject Structure of Federal Court System, Jurisdiction and Venue, governing law, challenges to jurisdiction and to court selection, pleadings, joinder of parties and claims, pretrial stage: disclosure and discovery, pretrial conference, settlement, judgment without trial (summary judgment, default judgment), burden of proof, voluntary and involuntary dismissal, trial: rules of evidence, jury trial and non jury trial, vois dire, types of verdicts, judgment not withstanding the verdict, motion for new trial, judgments and their effects, collateral estoppel, inforcement of judgments judicial review: appallate procceding und certiorari selected case material
