Pre-requisites For safety reasons: certified 32 ECTS points in chemical and/or microbiological laboratory exercises with experimental work carried out by the student.

Objectives To acquire an understanding of cell regulation and signaling. To acquire practical, hands-on experience in cell regulation and signaling.
Subject The course is a prime part of the graduate program in molecular and cellular biology aimed at broadening students' understanding of cellular regulation and signaling in specific areas of interest by individual lecturers. There will be an overview of each topic as well as detailed descriptions of selected biological phenomenon with experimental approaches in addressing the phenomenon.

Practical, on-hands courses are held in form of a "Journal Club" in which each student is required to present a selected, recent research paper on each topic in the course as if the paper were his or her own paper. This means students must defend the paper during a discussion with fellow classmates and instructors. These types of courses have been designed to teach students the art of critical reading/understanding as well as practice presentation techniques when presenting one's own research work. The Journal Club will be open to all other students in the department as a source of understanding in field of molecular and cellular biology.
