Objectives The course aims to supply students with the background and methods needed to analyse firm competitive strategies from a competition policy and regulatory perspective. Students become familiar with the legal framework of competition law in the US and the EU. We discuss current cases in competition policy. Students get the theoretical fundamentals that allow them to analyse business strategies from an economics perspective.
Subject The course covers the economic background and the legal framework of competition policy. The course covers the following topics

Antitrust:

  • Market Power and Efficiency
  • Collusion and Cartels
  • Merger Control
  • Vertical Restraints
  • Abuse of Dominance

Regulation and Consumer Protection

  • Regulation of Natural Monopolies
  • Consumer Protection and Consumer Behaviour
