Original study plan |
Bachelor's programme Business Informatics 2017W |
Objectives |
Students are able to analyze, create, implement and/or evaluate information systems. They understand both theory and practical experience of Business Informatics and can reflect on and link them. They realize the necessity of an integrated socio-technical approach for solving real-life problems, especially the integration of business management, technical and socio-scientific approaches considering important frame conditions like jurisdiction. They master selected methods and tools for handling IT-projects, are capable of working in teams and presenting working results.
|
Subject |
Applying and integrating business management, technical, and socio-economic approaches, methods, tools and knowledge in the frame of an IT-project related to a real-life issue. The actual project contents (type and focusing) vary.
|
Criteria for evaluation |
The course has immanent examinations. Assessment criteria: intense and professional cooperation and gained results. Assessment is based on the project results, a written project report and continuous presentation of interim and final results.
|
Methods |
Students are guided and supervised by business companies or other research institutions (which change every semester) and work on current topics self-dependently. They apply already learned methods and tools for developing a technical system and implement executable prototypes that demonstrate the functions of their self-conceived system.
|
Language |
German |
Study material |
Students are granted access to project-related literature via digital libraries like ACM, IEEE and SpringerLink. Additionally, the specialized library „Betriebswirtschaftslehre, Wirtschaftsinformatik und Fachsprachen“ (i.e. business management, business informatics and technical languages) can be used.

Further information |
The IT-Project is not considered an extra-curricular “internship”, nor a pure academic lecture. In fact, students are guided both by domain experts or practitioners and university lecturers practically applying their acquired skills and developing new capabilities for project-related methods and tools. The students present their results orally and in written form (final report).
